It's the New Year. Don't Do It!
I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season. I don’t know about the rest of you, but it felt like 2023 decided to kick my ass on the way out. My good sisterfriend said that 2023 was “quietly chaotic” and that felt about right… that is, until about a few weeks ago. By the end, it became loudly chaotic!
To add in a little insult to injury, Mercury was in retrograde for the last few weeks of the year, but it’s gone direct today, thank goodness.
To be honest, it was perfect timing.
Yes, it can be quite disruptive when Mercury is in retrograde. It forces us to slow down, be introspective, have more patience when traveling, be mindful with our communication, and prepare for delays and disruptions especially with technology. But…
It is also winter now: Hibernation Season. It’s naturally the time to be inside: inside our homes and inside of ourselves.
This retrograde forced us to double down on slowing down and going inward. We were being supported to take a breather to deeply reflect on 2023 and release what still remained. It supported us in easing into this new year, preserve our energy, and rest even though it might not have felt like that at all.
Right now, we’re are in the beginning of Hibernation Season, which means exerting energy starting new things and planting seeds in the cold winter months is a set up for failure. So don’t do it!
Don’t sign up to join the gym. Don’t start a new fitness regimen. Don’t buy new workout clothes for a new habit you’re trying to start. Don’t clean out your fridge to start that new diet. Don’t buy new books, courses, or programs with the promise to jumpstart your new year on the ‘”right” foot.
At least, don’t do it yet.
Learn to follow the energy of the seasons. Hibernation Season is best for resting, reflecting, planning, and preserving and replenishing your energy.
I understand the pull to set a New Year’s Resolution and jump off the diving board into a change of some kind that requires a lot of action. I’m feeling it too.
I want to pull all the clothes out of my dresser drawer and start over. I want to rebuild systems in my business. I want to start doing restorative yoga and somatic exercises right now. I want to make a major change to the way I eat.
None of these things are wrong, but starting these things as something I’m going to do for the rest of the year / my life is not the move right now.
Instead I am:
planning my business offerings with the Create the Rules Planner (here: https://www.createtherules.live/workback)
reflecting (I already chose my one word intention for the year) with Susannah Conaway (here: https://www.susannahconaway.com/unravel)
reading Jada Pinkett Smith’s book, which is pretty good. Leslie Jones is up next. (I’ve added reading memoirs to my Personal Quest list this year. More on that later.)
recalibrating my money. I’ve decided to end my Audible and Kindle Unlimited subscriptions this year and support my local library instead by taking out physical books and using Libby (here: https://www.overdrive.com/apps/libby). J-Bezos doesn’t need more of my money.
This alone will save me over $300 this year. I’m not quite ready to go yet Frank, but I’ve set a goal to end the subscriptions by next month. Gotta use up the last remaining 4 credits on Audible. I managed to get it down from 9. That was pure struggle and strife right there. lol
Anywho…
Let me get back to my planning. I’m wrapping up my monetary goalsetting using the Profit Plan. (here: https://smpl.ro/al/8oNz5EpLKPHCu8tmhBkmzcFg/43136-Biba-Atta). They’re holding a free live workshop in February.
Welcome to 2024, y’all!
P.S. I hosted my annual energy healing event to release the energy of the outgoing year and welcome in the energy of the incoming year on Youtube (here: https://www.youtube.com/live/2MoSeAeZ0RQ?si=QYJixhOFcqPXMBv8&t=348) You can do it at any time.
